Speculation About Boba Fett

Hey Jason & Jimmy,

I re-watched The Clone Wars Season 4 episode "Bounty" last night and it got me thinking about Boba Fett. In that episode we see Boba assemble a ragtag group of bounty hunters to pull off what is essentially a kidnapping transfer. To him, however, it's just a job -- the core mantra of a true bounty hunter! Anyhow, throughout the transfer we see Ventress more or less take over and Boba becomes a bit of a chump in the process and ultimately he's made to be a fool as Ventress stuffs him in the box and lets the hostage go.

The episode was more about Ventress and her arc than it was young Boba. Still, he was pretty badass with that cool helmet, those double blasters, and some cool moves. But Boba is still young and inexperienced here. Ventress even states this to him directly as she force chokes him out.

So this leads me to fill in the gap from the Boba we see here to the Boba we see in the OT.

Seems to me he needs a mentor of some sort. Someone who he can learn from to grow into his father's "shoes." As Boba says to Ventress, "You have no idea who I am." He is on his way to becoming the badass bounty hunter we all know and love but he's not quite there yet.

Just simple fanboy speculation, but might Boba learn from Death Watch? If you watch the latest Season 5 trailer, the Mandos have the Mandolorian Death Head on their chest armor now. Might Boba learn from them and adopt this symbol as well? Seems kinda like a no-brainer?

Guess we'll have to wait a few more months to find out!

Cheers,

Faithful ForceCast listener,
Will from St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada

A Fan Journeys to Yavin 4

Hey ForceCast guys,

I was listening to your June 15 interview with Chris Macht, and you mentioned to him that he could go to the Yavin 4 base in Guatemala. He asked whether it was safe to go, and you responded that you had no idea, but not to drink the water.

The mention of Yavin 4 in Tikal, Guatemala made me so happy because Yavin 4 was always my favorite Star Wars location, due to my family heritage being Guatemalan. A few years ago my husband and I took a trip to visit family in Guatemala, and had the opportunity to go to
Tikal. Fortunately we stayed safe from any violence, but my super white Anglo-American husband drank some water in Tikal and got so sick that he had to spend the night in a Guatemalan hospital. My grandmother and I did not get sick, but maybe it was just our Guatemalan genes keeping us safe.

So advice to any fans who want to make a pilgrimage, really-- don't drink the water! As for safety, violence in Guatemala has been on the rise due to drug trafficking and gangs. I would definitely do my research about safety before going again, although if you are smart about how you travel around the country and stick to tourist areas you should be safe. I would encourage anyone, Star Wars fan or not, to see this amazing place. The jungle is beautiful and the ancient ruins are a testament to human ingenuity. Plus, Guatemala is really cheap and close to the US. Our flight from Atlanta, GA to Guatemala City was less than 4 hours long, and less than $500/person.

Here is a picture of my husband Mark standing at the base of a huge temple, a screenshot of Yavin 4 from ANH, and our own picture taken from the top of Temple IV. All we need are a few X-wings taking off in the distance....

Thanks for an enjoyable podcast, as always!

Erin

Leland's Not Alone: Another Emotional Order 66 Experience

I just finished listening to the June 8 show, and I was really happy to hear from the Keeper of the Holocron. It was pretty moving to hear his reaction to Order 66, and the passion of his fandom that after 7 years that the mere memory of that moment chokes him up. I had a similar experience to that in the movie theater. I have been a life long Darth Vader fan, and I was largely unimpressed with most of the members of the council and the rank and file Jedi in the prequel films. (After viewing The Clone Wars, and seeing these characters fleshed out more I have more respect for them.) I had read the novel for episode 3 and I knew what was coming by the time it hit theaters.

But that early morning something happened, Sidious uttered that order, and Cody fired that shot, the oxygen of John Williams at his grandest filled my ears, and things became different. On Mygeeto we see my at the time least favorite Jedi, Ki-Ada-Mundi, who looked like Dan Akroyd’s brother from coneheads, was leading the victorious charge. 3 years of hardship and victory was almost in sight. Then with the scrape of boots, and a confused look the Revenge of the Sith started. The pure genius of Palpatine’s plan, and the utter unjust ending to the Jedi Order had moved me to tears that night as well.

Meeting Corey Dee Williams and Sam Witwer

Hi Jason and Jimmy,

I love your podcast and I meant to write you earlier about this. In May this year, Billy Dee Williams appeared at the MotorCity Comic Con outside of Detroit. That's not what I wanted to tell you about. The person whom I wanted to point out was his son, Corey Dee Williams, who appeared with him.

Apparently, Corey was Billy's stand-in for "Return of the Jedi" but also had an uncredited role as Klaatu, a skiff guard on Jabba's barge. Corey and his friend Stephen Costantino (who had an uncredited role as a Gamorrean Guard) accompany Billy on his appearances these days, helping with the set-up and fans. I got to speak with Corey for a few minutes. He signed a Klaatu figure I picked up at the show. He was very personable and friendly, and he seemed that he had a lot of stories to tell about his father. I couldn't talk longer, but I bet he
would make an excellent guest on the ForceCast.

At the same show was Sam Witwer. He was there promoting "Being Human" but I had him sign a Darth Maul figure. It was the first one he'd seen at the show and told me "Don't tell Ray Park I'm doing this." I talked to him about his appearance on the ForceCast (which I thought was one of your best interviews EVER). He dropped his face into his hands and said "I'm so embarrassed! I can't believe I didn't shut up!" I tried to reassure him how great it was though.

Novi, MI, is not that far from either Chicago or Canton. It would be great for the ForceCast to come up and do a live podcast there. Or even better, since I'm from London ON (half way between Detroit and Toronto), if you ever wanted to go international this about the Canadian FanExpo in Toronto (August 23- 26). It's one of the largest conventions in the world and the ForceCast would be a great part of it.

Anyhow, that my wish. Keep up the great work!
