Mandalore Rain Contest Voting Begins!
Posted by Jason on May 7, 2010 at 12:34 PM CST
You've heard their entries on recent episodes of The ForceCast. Now it's time to crown one of them the winner of the Mandalore Rain contest!
The idea for this contest came to us in an email from Jared and Melissa Pryer from New Orleans. They wrote to us shortly after our Clone Wars Roundtable discussion about the romance between Obi-Wan Kenobi and Duchess Satine of Mandalore. Here's what they sent us in February.
Hello from New Orleans. I was listening to the Duchess of Mandalore roundtable discussion when a song idea came to mind. Maybe Jovial Jay can come up with this as a song for the next Celebration. My idea is to write a song called Mandalore Rain which would be sung to the tune of Bruce Hornsby's Mandolin Rain. The content of the song could involve the past love relationship of Obi-wan and Satine. Just a thought. If I come up with some lyrics I will keep you posted. I have been listening to the Forcecast from the very beginning and have enjoyed every minute. Keep up the great work!
Here at the ForceCast, we know our listener base is very talented, so when we saw this email from the Pryers, we thought the contest was a great idea. Our listeners accepted the challenge and produced a variety of musical masterpieces.
The Pryers created the contest. We promoted it for several weeks. Our contestants submitted the entries. Now it's your turn. Use the audio players below to check out the various submissions and then vote using the widget at the bottom of this page.
Enjoy the music, and may the chorus be with you!

War rages on, like the time with Qui-Gon
on Mandalore, protecting her,
from the insurgency.
Amid the blaster fire,
came my first real desire
to leave it all; the robe, the saber,
if she would ask it of me.
Leave it for the Mandalore rain,
Leave it for the vast terrain.
Oh, Leave it for Satine's gaze,
Blonde hair, blue eyes ablaze.
Made an oath to the Jedi Code,
but if she... would just say so,
I'm afraid I would leave this war
for the Duchess of Mandalore.
And now, here again,
she offers me her hand
as we walk through Sundari
under the giant dome.
A blast from a charge,
she is thrown into my arms,
and the question floods my heart:
Is my chance really gone?
To Leave it for the Mandalore rain,
Leave it for the vast terrain.
Oh, Leave it for Satine's gaze,
Blonde hair, blue eyes ablaze.
Made an oath to the Jedi Code,
but if she... would just say so,
I'm afraid I would leave this war
for the Duchess of Mandalore.
Bounty hunters from the skies,
we were fighting for our very lives.
Qui-Gon never realized
the secret that was passed
between our eyes...
between our eyes.
(repeat first verse and variations of chorus)
HIGH ADVENTURE (GLEN NELSON, SPENCER KLINELL, AND TODD HOWARD)JOHN HALL IIIThe stars came and went
Like the years that we spent
Hiding from the tears
That the planet wept
I fought wile she ran
Fighting their evil plan
With Qui-Gon Gin
Who dies in part one
Fighting off the Mandalore Rain
Listen to the lightsaber buzz
Oh listen to the droids scream
Every time I cut them in half
Oh, listen to the blasters shoot
As I keep them from you
Listen to Anikan, cause he protects you too
A cool Ewok dance
Listen to the cantina band take the panic from the air
Til they play the last song
We were both young and dumb
Oh, looking for a little fun but there’s moments where I wish I could Force choke you
Fighting off the Mandalore Rain
Listen to the lightsaber buzz
Listen to the raindrops
Every time they hit my sword
Oh, listen to the planet’s wind
Jar-Jar flying by (Oh no!)
Listen to the takes roll
As I run for my life
Running down by the throne room
She did love the sound of a Jedi fight
We played on throne like movie stars
Now it’s time to play with my saber once again
(Obi-Wan: Just like that swarm of Venomites on Draboon, remember?
Satine: How could I forget? I still have the scar.
Obi-Wan: Begging your pardon Duchess I distinctly remember carrying you to safety.
Satine: I meant the scar after you fell and dropped me.
Obi: Oh… yes.)
Satine you’re my babe
And I know I’m your Obi
But it’s time for me to go
Oh, it’s time for me to leave
I can’t change my mind
Oh, I knew all the time that I’d go
It’s my duty as a Jedi knight
Fighting off the Mandalore Rain
The moisture of your love
It’s the only thing you can do when you’re down on your luck
In my experience there’s no such thing as luck
Even so the Force will be with you
Now go and find your love
Find her and hold on tight
Oh, hold on tight
Fightin’ off
Fightin’ off the Mandalore rain
Listen to the tears roll
Down her face as I turn to go x2
Fightin’ off
Fightin’ off the Mandalore rain
Fightin’ off the Mandalore rain
WhoooOOOoooo
Oh yeah…
(Satine: Kind words indeed from a mindful and committed Jedi. And yet…
Obi-Wan: What?
Satine: I’m still not sure… About the beard.
Obi-Wan: Why, what’s wrong with it?
Satine: I hides too much of your handsome face.)
KENNY BAESE AND JOSHUA STOLTEDuring the Wars we did dare
Into love we did stare
Under that great big dome that was made of all those squares
Satine and Obi-Wan
Made out and fell in love
But that’s not good said a concerned Master Qui Gon
Listen to the Mandalore Rain
Howling like a wookiee in pain
Listen to the hyperdrive that takes her away
Listen to the Dark Saber
Where he got it I’ve got no clue
That dude in the Mando armor will come after you
That Pre Vizla guy
Was mad that he didn’t get to fight
and had revenge in his eyes for the Dutchess
Death Watch was his gig
It became very big and they made some
armor like those Hasbro guys
Listen to the Mandalore Rain
Howling like a Wookiee in pain
Listen to the hyperdrive that takes her away
Listen to Anakin whine,
“Hey, this story’s supposed to be mine”
Listen to Filoni
change the Star Wars time line
Listen to Boba Fett
Chase after Chewie and Han
All the Jedi they slayed
Their penchant for Wookiee braids
Those Mandos really put up a good fight
but they’re still not match
for all the women who turn
out to be Jedi Kryptonite
Listen to the Mandalore Rain
Howling like a wookiee in pain
Listen to the hyperdrive that takes her away
Listen to the EU fans cry
Watching their hopes and dreams die
Listen to Karen Traviss heave a great big sigh
MICHAEL FALKNERThe gunships came and went
Like the times that we spent
Hiding out from the rain under the old surplus tent
I’d actually laugh and she'd smile
It would last for awhile
If I’d only known what I had before I let it slip away
Listening to the Mandalore rain
Listening to the music in my soul
Listening to my heart lose control every time I run away
Listen to the Coruscant wind
Jedi siren song drifting low
Seeing how the tears rolled
Down her face as I turned to go
Fighting in a foreign land
Listening to the cantina band takes the chill
From the memory till they play the last song
I'll do my time
Keeping you off my mind but there's moments
Not even the Force can keep me feeling so strong
Listening to the Mandalore rain
Listening to the music in my soul
Listening to my heart lose control every time I run away
Listen to the Coruscant wind
Jedi siren song drifting low
Seeing how the tears rolled
Down her face as I turned to go
I was down by the lakeshore
Sharing her love of a summer storm
Tearing my mind with what might have been
With the Republic calling me away once again
My transport's coming in
I feel the storm clouds spin and I
Think about her when I watch my lightsaber glow
I can't change my mind
She knew all the time that I'd go
But that's a choice I made long ago
Listening to the Mandalore rain
Listening to the music in my soul
Listening to my heart lose control every time I run away
Listen to the Coruscant wind
Jedi siren song drifting low
Seeing how the tears rolled
Down her face as I turned to go
As I turned to go
Listening to… Listening to the Mandalore rain
Seeing how the tears rolled
Down her face as I turned to go
Seeing how the tears rolled
Down her face as I turned to go
Listening to the Mandalore rain
MIKE POTEETVerse 1 A long time ago, in a galaxy you know,
Obi-Wan found the one he’d treasure all of his days.
Satine he held dear;
But the Force made it clear
That their destinies lay along different ways.
Chorus Standin’ in the Mandalore rain,
Just a lonely Jedi in pain;
Watch him as he feels the start
Of a great disturbance in his heart.
Cryin’ in Concordia’s light,
Lost in an alien night.
Don’t you know he feels the Force
With an undercurrent of remorse?
Verse 2 While they were on the run from bounty hunter scum,
Obi-Wan and Satine kindled true love’s flame.
The thought was in his mind
That he’d leave his oath behind
If Satine would say the words—
But they never came.
(Chorus)Bridge Years from then, he’d tell Anakin,
“Never let a love get under your skin”;
But that argument he couldn’t win,
‘cause his heart beat for her once again.
Once again…
Verse 3 Now on Tatooine, Ben dreams of Satine
When the twin suns go down and the krayt dragon calls.
Imagines her sweet face
As a rose in the Jundland Wastes
Where the skies never cloud, and rain never falls…
‘Cause he was standin’ in the Mandalore rain...
(Chorus)DAVID AND KIMBERLY KUMAR AND DAN RANDALLUNCLE MILKSHAKEBIG HONKIN' STEVEBETHANY HAMILTON AND WILLIAM SOLTYSNICHOLAS KOVARITAYLOR (LADYVADER66)On board the Coronet
Back to the senate
Fighting off assassin probes and Tal Merrik
Swarms of venomite
she’s my Kryptonite
why is it those Jedi fall for the royalty?
fighting in the Mandalore rain
Pre Vizsla is insane
All the EU people scream -- it’s a Karen travesty
Fighting in the Mandalore rain
There’s a duchess-- I have to save
Running from the Death Watch—in every episode
Room for romance
Running from insurgents on Mandalore
Back when we were both young and in love
Went through my trials
Leaving you far behind but the Clone Wars
Brought us back together again
Fighting in the Mandalore rain
There’s a pacifist I have to save
We won’t stop arguing, or could it be flirting?
fighting Mando warriors
Carrying their dark sabers
If she asked I
Would’ve left the Order years ago
She carries a disruptor
She’s fighting for the rights of her home world
But this episode is winding down now
she’s gone until season three
PALAK YADAV (Lyrics-Only)The mission came and went
Now I'm forced to reminisce
of all the times that we spent
on Mandalore
I always dissaproved
in the force that you used
But if you wished I wouldn't have minded
your jedi ways
Listen to the Mandalore Rain
Listen to Obi-Wan say my name
Listen to how you'd always keep me safe
Listen to how much I miss you
back on Coruscant
Listen to how you'd have left the jedi order for me
