Chicago White Sox Star Wars Day
Last Saturday, September 8th, the first-place Chicago White Sox hosted Star Wars Day at U.S. Cellular Field. Star Wars fans of all ages flocked to the ballpark on the city's South Side to participate in a pre-game parade and photo-ops with the 501st, Rebel Legion, and creative Star Wars fans like ForceCast pals Sean and Alphie. You might remember Sean and Alphie from their memorable appearance at CVI in their customized Batman and Green Lantern Mandalorian mash-ups. On Saturday, they revealed their latest with Sox Fett joining the stalwart Captain America Mando.
Graphics on the Jumbotron screen had players photo-shopped into Star Wars scenarios with occasional words of wisdom from Yoda himself. The Star Wars Main Theme and Cantina Theme were heard in between innings while lighsabers waved in the stands with every tense pitch. The Force was with The White Sox as they defeated Kansas City 5-4 to please the crowd of Star Wars and Sox fans alike.
The White Sox hope to make this an annual event. This year, the event was a campaign to raise awareness and money for StandUp2Cancer.org, an organization dedicated to fighting the disease.
